a break from the road

~Gas prices this morning are $1.09 a liter! Yikes!!

~Which reminds me, Benjie (my almost 20-year-old baby) leaves with his band the Red Scare on their cross-Canada tour this morning. The ‘scare’ part resonates with me. These kids will be gone for over a month, traveling in a not-new Volvo, towing an old camping trailer. Which is why the words of the Chris Rice song playing just now on my way to pick up typing rang so true:

Why does the past always seem safer
Maybe because at least we know we made it
And why do we worry about the future
When every day will come just the way the Lord ordained it.

– Chris Rice - "8th Grade" from Run the Earth Watch the Sky © 2003.

~ Oswald Chamber today:

To choose to suffer means that there is something wrong; to choose God’s will even it if means suffering is a very different thing. No healthy saint ever chooses suffering; he chooses God’s will, as Jesus did, whether it means suffering or not. No saint dare interfere with the discipline of suffering in another saint.

[...] Notice God’s unutterable waste of saints, according to the judgement of the world. God plants His saints in the most useless places. We say – God intends me to be here because I am so useful. Jesus never estimated His life along the line of the greatest use. God puts His saints where they will glorify Him, and we are no judges at all of where that is.

Oh may these truths penetrate and stain my very grain.
